We’ve been enjoying beautiful autumn sunshine and crisp, cooler temperatures here in Seattle—sweater weather at its best. Outside, leaves are turning vibrant shades of orange and yellow and are starting to drift to the ground. There’s a noticeable crispness in the air, and I’m loving every moment of cozying up the house for fall.

Ladder / Sackcloth & Ashes Blanket
For years I’ve enjoyed letting the seasons evolve slowly inside my home to match the gradual changes outside. Even when the weather is unpredictable, a gentle transition into autumn—adding warmth and comfort indoors—has become a comforting nesting ritual.

Sweater weather isn’t just about wardrobe changes; it’s an invitation to shift how I decorate. As the air cools, I naturally bring more warmth into the home—soft layers, richer textures, and gentle lighting.

Sackcloth & Ashes Blanket
Blankets are my favorite fall accessory. My daughter and I visited World Market recently and fell for the eco-friendly blankets from Sackcloth & Ashes—cozy, well-made, and irresistibly soft. Beyond bringing home a plush new throw, I learned that for every Sackcloth & Ashes blanket purchased at World Market, a second blanket is donated to a shelter in California. I love that these blankets share warmth with someone who needs it.
The Sackcloth & Ashes blanket also arrives in a box designed to be filled with items to donate to a local shelter or to keep in your car for someone in need—such a thoughtful idea. I’ll share suggestions for items to include at the end of this post.

Along with fuzzy pups, warm sweaters, and cozy throws, I also crave the glow of soft lighting in autumn. As evenings darken earlier, I find myself turning on lamps before dinner and layering in sparkly accents: copper string lights, mercury-glass votives, and battery-operated candles inside lanterns create a gentle, welcoming glow that pairs beautifully with soft textures.

My parents and nephew were visiting for the weekend, so we set the table on Saturday night and enjoyed homemade soup. An inviting table, warm light, the aroma of a good meal, and the sound of family laughter are simple ways to add warmth to a chilly autumn evening.

Birch Branch Votive Centerpiece / Table Runner

Battery-operated copper-wired string lights tuck into corners, baskets, or around centerpieces to add a little sparkle. Even a single strand can lift the mood and keep the cozy feeling going through the holidays.

White Fringe Pillow / Lumbar Pillow
Swapping a few pillows or pillow covers is a simple seasonal update. Neutral tones like black, white, and natural fibers with lots of texture transition a room into fall and winter without committing to a bold color change. With neutrals as a base, it’s easy to add a pop of color whenever you want bright accents.

Replacing smoother, shinier pieces with warmer, more tactile materials also changes how a room feels. I swapped a glossy white planter on my mantel for a chunky wooden one—such a small change, but it instantly made the space feel cozier. Brass lanterns and a few well-chosen accessories add character and invite a warm mood.
I’ve made a few other small updates around the house that I’ll share another day. I prefer slow fall changes—little evolutions that make home feel more inviting as the season progresses.

What are some other ways you can warm up your home for sweater weather?
