TThe slight chill in the morning air here in the Northwest tells me fall is on its way. I’m a true fall-lover, so that makes me endlessly happy, but I’m not rushing to say goodbye to summer. I know many readers are still savoring the last warm days, and I’m enjoying them too.
Even so, I love autumn and I’m excited to begin what I call Fall Nesting.
As regular readers know, embracing seasonal rhythms is one of my greatest joys. I like to shift the feeling of my home gradually as the seasons change, letting each transition unfold naturally.
I’ve often said that you don’t need to flip your home from summer to fall in one frantic day. Seasonal decorating shouldn’t feel like whiplash.
For me, fall isn’t a decorate-in-a-day event where every surface is covered by the contents of plastic bins. That approach works for some, and if that’s your style, go for it. But I prefer a slower, more intentional rhythm.
I’m a slow-and-gradual person by nature: savoring the season, experiencing the senses, adding one texture or layer at a time. That way the home evolves in a meaningful, comfortable way rather than feeling overhauled overnight.
With cooler mornings prompting me to reach for socks as I start the day, I began putting together a cozy fall playlist to set the mood. Even if pumpkins don’t appear on my porch until October, it’s never too early to get into the spirit of fall nesting.
What mood do you want your home to have this season? A playlist can be a lovely way to inspire and shape that feeling. Below I share the cozy playlist that helps me slip into a fall state of mind.

Have you made any changes in your home to welcome the fall season?
