It Is Time for Fall Decorating!
My quick and easy fall mantel
Friends, it’s that moment again — time to let go of summer and welcome the comforts of fall.
I realize some of you are still enjoying warm weather and others don’t experience leaf changes where you live.
Here at The Inspired Room, fall is a state of mind. It isn’t defined by local weather but by a gentle shift toward coziness: nesting, making our homes warm and inviting, and settling into a slower rhythm.
You don’t need to transform everything at once. Seasons unfold gradually.
Today I realized I hadn’t started any fall nesting and decided to take a small step.
My house had been a little chaotic — we’d blocked off parts of it to potty-train Jack, our puppy (good news: he’s practically trained!). That made it hard to feel like nesting when I’d have to climb over gates and chairs to get anywhere.
Still, even amid the crazy, I needed to return to something I love: puttering around the house and preparing for fall.
So this afternoon I took down the summer mantel, dusted things off, and gathered a few fall-friendly pieces from around the house: a dark-framed mirror, stringed pumpkin lights I picked up years ago at Target, a mason jar of tiny red apples and clothespins, some pretty books, candles, a basket, and other small accents.
As usual, I kept it simple. I’m not a master crafter, and right now I don’t always have time for elaborate projects. No glue gun required — I just mixed and matched items from my stash until the mantel felt just right.
I focused on one small area I could finish quickly. The mantel decor is simple and came together quickly, and I can add or rearrange pieces over time.
Just a little fall on the mantel reminded me that soon I’ll be sipping hot cider and reading by the fire. Ah — happy sigh.
I’d love to see your Fall Nesting! Did you pack away summer accessories? Make a new wreath? Bring out autumn curtains or bake pumpkin bread? Share what you’ve done and inspire others with your cozy touches.

Ready. Set. Go! Let the fall inspiration begin.
