Ready for a simple fall decorating idea? Use a plaid throw blanket as decor. Last fall I used a blue, green and brown plaid wool throw in my home, and in this post I’ll show a few places where a plaid lap blanket works beautifully.
Good news: the plaid lap blanket I used is available again in multiple colors. Many shades sold out last season, so if you missed it before this is a great time to order. Expect orders to take a couple of weeks for delivery, and order soon if you want to be sure you get the color you like.
I think a plaid throw is a perfect cozy touch for fall, although I kept mine out much of the year.
One of the things I love about this plaid throw is the lap blanket size. It’s easy to drape over a bench, lay across the end of a bed, fold on a shelf, or tuck over the back of a chair. Larger blankets can be bulky, but a lap-sized throw is simple to fold and store and works in many spots around the home.

The smaller size is ideal when you want to add a touch of color, pattern, and texture without overwhelming the space.
I used a couple of these throws on our DIY no-sew bench cushion. They add color and pattern while keeping the bench looking layered and inviting.

I liked them so much I left them on the bench all year. When summer arrived I kept the plaid throws in place and added a lighter, more summery throw across the center for a fresh look.

The plaid has that picnic-blanket charm that makes it versatile for all seasons, but it really shines as a cozy fall accent.
Another practical benefit: this wool plaid blanket is washable, making it easy to keep fresh through regular use.
If you decide to get one of these throws in any color, I’d love to see how you use it—tag me @theinspiredroom on Instagram.
