Last year I bought a metal whale with the plan to incorporate him into our decor year-round in our coastal home. He wasn’t made as a wreath originally, but for winter he works perfectly as a whale wreath and brings a playful touch to our entry.
I don’t follow every decorating trend. Instead I focus on creating a home that feels meaningful to our family. Small touches that reflect a love of the sea—through color, texture and carefully chosen accessories—help create a calm, coastal mood that fits our lifestyle.

What brings me joy in decorating is personal meaning, not chasing every new fad.
When I spotted this little whale and it made me smile, I knew he belonged in our home. A touch of whimsy lightens the mood and makes the space feel welcoming and true to our sense of humor.

In the shuffle of moving and settling into our new home, the whale got tucked away and forgotten—until a couple of weeks ago. Now he’s back, perched on a winter wreath, greeting us at the door with a cheerful presence.
He’s simple and easy to display but makes a big impact. I tied a velvet ribbon around the saw-tooth hanger on the back of the whale and hung it on a cup hook on our door. The result feels effortless and joyful.
