Over the past few years I’ve collected several fishing-style baskets. After a recent post, a few readers asked about the basket in my kitchen, so I wanted to share more about this little collection and how I use them around the house.

You can find similar styles in my Amazon shop or by browsing local secondhand and vintage stores — they often turn up tucked away and waiting to be discovered.

I found my first basket in the back of a nearby vintage shop before I even knew what they were called. Its distinctive shape immediately caught my eye and kicked off my tiny collection.

All baskets are useful for decor and organization, but these fishing baskets bring extra character and charm thanks to their unique silhouette and long handles.

Right now we have a larger fishing basket hanging in the mudroom. My husband uses it to store some dog supplements — a clever and practical solution. The long handle makes it perfect for hanging on a hook, and I love how it adds a charming, lived-in touch to the space.

The basket that held apples in my recent shelf styling post moves around the house often. It’s one of those pieces that’s both decorative and useful — perfect for concealing items or lending texture to a shelf or countertop.

I also love how these baskets look with plants or flowers. Using an unexpected container like this brings personality to a vignette and softens the look of a room with natural texture.

One of the baskets is hung on our door with a white rope and filled with plants for seasonal porch decor. You can line a basket with a plastic bag or place flowers in jars or glasses to protect the weave and make it practical for greenery.

The texture, shape and versatility of these baskets make them favorites for styling. They’re great for storage, softening a space with natural materials, or adding a bit of character wherever they’re placed.

I’ve even used one as a simple way to store extra toilet paper in our powder bath — a small, stylish solution that keeps things tidy.

Happy decorating!
