After a week of rain, sun, snow and hail during this first week of spring in the Pacific Northwest, I’m more than ready for true gardening weather. My plan later this spring is to transform my tiny front yard, which is currently just a muddy patch, into something pleasant and low-maintenance.

I’m envisioning a small gravel pathway to define movement through the space, a couple of tidy garden beds planted with evergreens and creeping plants for year-round interest, and a simple bench as a place to sit and enjoy the results. It feels like a perfectly manageable summer project that will make a big difference.

There’s something deeply satisfying about tending a small patch of ground and seeing it become a pretty garden.

Wouldn’t it be absolute bliss to have a charming garden shed like the one below? I snapped this photo while browsing one of my favorite local shops, Ravenna Gardens at University Village in Seattle. I especially love the warm copper roof — it gives the shed a timeless, inviting look.

To get into the spirit of spring gardening, my daughter Courtney put together a small collage of favorite gardening items. It’s full of charming tools and accessories that make the idea of gardening feel even more appealing.

If it’s still too chilly to dig in the dirt where you are, you can bring that spring energy indoors. Try adding natural elements to your decor — branches, potted plants, or simple floral arrangements can bring fresh life to a room. Or consider refreshing your wardrobe with a few spring pieces to brighten your days until you can get outside.

Whether you plan to work inside or outdoors, I hope the weather cooperates and gives you a lovely, springlike weekend.

Happy Friday! What are your plans this weekend?
{We’re planning to stay inside on Saturday and paint some walls.}
