Botanical Plates, Bowls & Platters: Stylish Affordable Tableware

dishes as decor

Who doesn’t love the idea of dishes as decor? I recently picked up an affordable, adorable dinnerware collection at Walmart—no sponsorship—mainly because the pieces are beautiful for styling shelves and counters. The collection from Better Homes & Gardens has a fresh, coastal-inspired look that’s perfect for summer display as well as casual entertaining.

The pieces I bought are bamboo melamine. While I tend to avoid plastic for everyday indoor meals, these are labeled BPA-free and work wonderfully for outdoor gatherings, picnics, or as backup plates for a crowd. Mostly, I purchased them because they’re pretty and versatile for styling open shelving, plate racks, and countertops.

Walmart and Better Homes + Gardens did an excellent job with the design and color options in this collection.

Items I ordered from the collection:

Chip and Dip Tray

12-Piece Dinnerware Set

Serving Trays (set of 3)

Serving Bowl

I also noticed a few other pieces I wish I had ordered, like a handy basket caddy. If you’re shopping this line, browse the whole collection so you don’t miss coordinating items that can make styling even easier.

I bought three of the platters because they’re ideal for display on a shelf or propped on a plate stand on the counter. They add height, color, and pattern to a vignette without being fragile, which is a big bonus in a busy household.

I’ll experiment with styling and share ideas soon, but I wanted to post these photos and tips in case some pieces are low in stock.

Quick decorating ideas and tips:

  • Arrange platters across a kitchen shelf or lean them on a counter using plate stands for instant visual interest.
  • Hang a set of plates on a wall for an easy, cottage-inspired display that’s practical and pretty.
  • Stack bowls on open shelving to create layered texture and color—this works especially well with mixed sizes.
  • Choose lightweight, durable materials like bamboo melamine for outdoor entertaining to avoid worrying about breakage.
  • Shop secondhand stores for unique plates and platters if you prefer vintage looks or want to mix eras and patterns.

My best rule for styling is to use items you love and actually use. Dishes can be both functional and decorative—display what makes you happy and suits your everyday life.

If you like this collection, grab pieces while they’re available. It’s offered in at least two colors—I chose the blue—and you can buy individual pieces or a coordinated set, depending on your needs.

I also share short videos and daily finds through my LTK profile. If you enjoy seeing how items look in a real home, that’s a great place to catch quick styling clips and notifications when I add new discoveries.
