House Beautiful
Blue & White Kitchen
I love kitchens. They are my favorite room to design and the place I most enjoy being. A beautiful kitchen inspires me — countertops and cabinets, knobs and sinks, faucets and lighting all capture my attention. Whether large and luxurious or small and charming, a well-designed kitchen makes my heart beat faster.
I could spend hours studying every detail. If you invite me into a lovely kitchen, I might not listen to much else because I’ll be examining the finishes and imagining how the space was planned. I appreciate the way a kitchen combines function and beauty, and I never tire of looking at thoughtfully chosen elements.
I especially love the kitchen featured in House Beautiful this month. That view from the window is breathtaking. Imagine doing dishes while looking out over that landscape — chores would suddenly feel less like work and more like a small daily luxury. The white cabinetry, the rounded counters, the warm wood trim around the window and the rustic floors all create a serene, timeless feeling. The dark wood island adds contrast, and the farmhouse sinks lend a classic, practical touch.

The backsplash tile and blue barstools are lovely accents that bring personality to the space while keeping the palette fresh and airy. It’s a great example of how color, texture, and thoughtful details come together to create a welcoming kitchen that feels both elegant and lived-in.
Even so, I’m very happy with my own kitchen. I find so much joy in puttering around there that sometimes I don’t feel the urge to work on other rooms. If I could renovate only one space, it would be the kitchen — it’s where life happens, where meals and conversations take place, and where design choices have a big impact on everyday living.
Do you have a favorite room in a house? If you could update only one space, which room would you choose?
