Fresh as a daisy! Aren’t these daisy sheets absolutely charming? They feel perfect for summer and look delightful on my newly acquired bed.
After leaning against the fireplace in our living room for four weeks, the Ethan Allen Quincy bed we found on Facebook Marketplace finally made it up the stairs to our bedroom this weekend — thanks to some helpers we hired to get it in place.
I couldn’t love it more. As a kid I used to keep new shoes by my bed so I could see them as I fell asleep—did you do that too? Now I fall asleep in a lovely new bed and wake up happy in my daisy sheets.

We’ll need a few unexpected updates — new bedside tables and lamps, a fresh coat of paint and some small tweaks — but the whole experience has been so joyful I don’t mind the extra work.
Some people search for months for a specific piece; I found my dream bed on my very first search. I wasn’t even planning to buy a bed right then, but it felt meant to be. Serendipity indeed.
You can read my first post about finding the bed here.

Just minutes before I searched Facebook Marketplace, I had been showing my husband this exact bed on the Ethan Allen site while making a mood board for our home. He liked it and agreed the robin’s egg blue was the right color. Then on a whim I typed “Quincy Bed Ethan Allen” into FBMP — and there it was: my robin’s egg blue Quincy bed. I’d wanted this for years and could hardly believe it.
It wasn’t simple, though. The bed was in Canada and we don’t own a truck. That was just the start of the challenges.
Many of you asked for the rest of the story, so here it is — the misadventures we didn’t include in the original post.
So here is the rest of the story — for you, my curious friends. 🙂

We forgot to enable phone roaming before crossing the border, so the map stopped working the moment we entered Canada. With no built-in navigation in the rented U-Haul and no working phone map, we felt instantly lost. After wandering around an outdoor mall we found an ATM that was supposed to be open 24 hours — but it was closed, leaving us without Canadian cash to pay for the bed.
Undeterred, we followed the step-by-step directions I had saved and headed to the seller’s home, explaining our cash situation. The seller didn’t speak much English, so we communicated mainly through her daughter. Initially she refused PayPal, which would have been simplest, but she eventually agreed to set up an account so we could pay remotely.
When we inspected the bed, another problem surfaced: we couldn’t disassemble it with the tools we had brought. I was starting to worry we’d have to leave empty-handed. We left to find the right tools at Home Depot, trusting the seller to still have the bed when we returned — thankfully she did.

With the correct tools we finally disassembled the bed. The heavy headboard required the seller’s help; she stood on one side while I stood on the other and my husband at the far end. We’re not spring chickens, but together we managed to get the pieces down the staircase and into the truck.
Once the daughter’s PayPal was ready, I transferred the money and we were on our way home. By then we had been in Canada about four hours longer than planned. After a quick bite we crossed the border smoothly — the agents asked a few questions and inspected the truck, then waved us through.

Would I do this again for a Facebook Marketplace find? Maybe not every time, but the Quincy bed was worth the effort. If another find touched my heart the same way, I’d probably try again. I do wonder whether sellers in Canada will be so trusting if they ever read this tale!
My Quincy bed is a real charmer, and I’m thrilled to have a piece I love so much. If you’re hunting for soft organic cotton sheets, these Daisy sheets from Garnet Hill are lovely — I’m also a fan of their quilts. Sources are listed below.
