I love the warm, lived-in feeling that comes from blending vintage touches with modern cottage style.

A vintage-inspired modern cottage relies on muted color palettes and a few carefully chosen vintage elements—weathered wood tones, lightly distressed finishes, and antique-inspired shapes. Pair those with clean, modern lines in furniture or textiles so the overall result feels fresh, balanced, and intentional.

We moved into a 1950s home in Seattle four years ago, and I’ve been slowly shaping the rooms to reflect the cozy charm I envision. Rather than renovating everything, I focus on layering pieces that feel collected over time.

While I do have some treasured vintage pieces I’ll always keep, you can achieve a similar look by mixing new items that feel like they could have a history. Thoughtful accessories and finishes can create the same sense of age and character without relying solely on antiques.

My goal is a home that invites you to stay a while—especially as fall approaches. The right combination of textures makes a big difference in how cozy a space feels.

Recently I added some vintage-inspired pieces to the living room. A soft throw blanket and textured pillows from Walmart’s vintage line bring character and extra texture to the clean lines of my sofa. Little details like pom-pom tassels add a playful, homey touch.

Delicate blue glass flower vases add a subtle vintage vibe and currently hold the last hydrangeas from my garden. Fading hydrangeas in a classic vase feel timeless and nostalgic—like something you might find at Grandma’s house.

You don’t need major, expensive changes to create atmosphere. Small updates—an artful arrangement, a textured throw, or a vintage-style accessory—can shift the feel of a room toward that modern-cottage charm.

I believe a home should reflect the layers of our lives. Mixing styles and pieces honors how a house evolves over time. Introducing one or two vintage-inspired elements helps a space feel personal and storied without becoming stuck in the past.
