Spring Decor Ideas That Celebrate Your Home’s Story

Do you enjoy incorporating family treasures or meaningful pieces into your seasonal decor? Here are a few thoughts on choosing and displaying season-specific items that honor memory and tradition.

I wrote recently about how my mom always set out her sweet ceramic bunnies each spring. They often found a place on our Easter table. Knowing how much I loved that tradition, my husband surprised me with a set of ceramic bunnies years ago so our family could carry the tradition forward. I adore them and have taken them with me to every home we’ve lived in—they’re one of those pieces I can’t imagine letting go of.

Decor that tells your story brings a warmth and sense of continuity to your home. Using seasonal, natural elements and versatile pieces that work year-round is practical and attractive, but if everything feels purely generic, the overall look can be beautiful yet lack personal meaning.

That said, keeping lots of sentimental items can become a storage challenge. After a few recent moves I’ve had to pare down my collection. Each move helped me let go of more, but deciding what to keep and what to pass on is often an ongoing process.

If it’s hard for you to release things, or if storage is limited, simplify by choosing a single seasonal item for spring—something that already carries family meaning or has the potential to become a cherished tradition for future generations. An item that sits on a mantel or entry table each spring will be easy to include year after year.

Then let other pretty pieces find a new home where they’ll be enjoyed.
