Refreshing Summer Home Decor Ideas for Every Room

Covered porch summer decorating inspiration

If I had a large covered porch, I would want it to look just like this. I saw this photo in Better Homes and Gardens and felt a rush of delight. The shingles, the furnishings, the door and the porch ceiling—everything feels perfectly composed.

This mint green kitchen nearly convinced me to rethink my own kitchen palette. It’s so charming it made deciding on colors even harder—but in a good way.

I adore that lamp, though it might be risky in a busy household. Still, the color scheme feels bright, summery, and inviting—worth the gamble.

The wood trim around that doorway gives me all the heart eyes. The window seat, the shiplap, the unique coffee table and the ceiling fan—all of it comes together beautifully. I’d happily take the whole room.

I see some of you already have kids headed back to school (it feels early!), but my son doesn’t return until September, so we’re still firmly in summer mode here.

In previous years I would often be traveling to Better Homes & Gardens events or other blogging gatherings around this time, but this summer I promised myself I’d stay home—or only travel with my family. Even though I missed seeing friends and attending events, keeping the summer low-key has been a welcome change.

Summers can fill up fast with trips and activities, even those you’d enjoy. Saying “no” to many invitations has given me space to relax and enjoy home life, and I don’t regret it. It’s been so nice to be home.

This season I’ve slipped into what I’ve started calling “summer nesting.” I’ve never thought of summer as a nesting season before, but slowing down and focusing on making home comfortable has felt just right this year.

I’ll share more about nesting, my decluttering efforts, and my kitchen timeline soon, but for now enjoy this late-summer decorating inspiration.
