Hi friends! I’m sharing a bathroom update today as part of the Makeover in a Month series. A group of blogging friends and I challenged ourselves to start and finish a room makeover in our homes by the end of the month. It’s surprising how much faster you work with a deadline — a little like how quickly a house gets tidied when guests are expected. Since we don’t have many visitors these days, making our own deadlines has become a great motivator.
This project is a straightforward refresh of our basement bathroom. I’ve wanted to update this space for five years, but other priorities kept pushing it back. Now, thanks to the timeline, we’ll finish it in just a few days. The deadline helped me stop chasing the “perfect” plan and choose practical, effective updates. Even the small changes we’ve made so far have brightened and refreshed the room more than I expected.

Last week I showed the freshly painted vanity. The dark, glossy wood and older silver and brass fixtures were dragging the space down. A coat of milk paint transformed the vanity and made a huge visual difference.
This week we installed new faucets from Kingston Brass. The change from paint and updated fixtures has been dramatic — it already feels like a brand-new bathroom. We’re not finished yet, but the progress is exciting.

I love the vintage-inspired faucets — they’re attractive and well-made. We also replaced other hardware with matte black pieces for the towel rod, robe hook, toilet paper holder, and toilet handle. Having the finishes match has made the space feel cohesive and thoughtfully updated. I’ll share more details in the reveal and future posts.
Next on the list is painting a stencil pattern on the wall — I’m curious to see how that turns out. After that we’ll hang mirrors, remove the old light fixtures, and install new white powder-coated vanity lights. These lighting changes should enhance the refreshed look and bring more balance to the room.
There’s also a design mood board I created earlier that helped guide the look for this bathroom.

I’m excited to see the room come together. These small, focused updates have already made a big difference in both function and style.
