My daughters and I love visiting the Street of Dreams in Portland—it’s one of our favorite end-of-summer traditions. I grew up going with my family, and now we continue the tradition. This year my son and nephew joined us, which made the day even more fun.
We go to dream. The homes on the tour are inspiring and often very grand, but I always come away with ideas that work for more modest spaces, too. I’m especially drawn to houses that feel lived-in and family-friendly, even when they’re large. This particular home felt warm and practical, styled inside with a comfortable modern farmhouse aesthetic that still feels approachable.
There are echoes of a favorite coastal farmhouse I wrote about last year; the same relaxed, layered look shows up here. The house in this post was built as a private residence on the same property where the owners had raised their four boys. The smaller house that once served as their family home now functions as a guest house, which you’ll see in some of the photos below.
I don’t have complete details on every source used in the home, but I linked to the builder’s page when available and I’ve included a few of my own shopping resources in other posts for similar pieces. I took many photographs while touring, and while I believe most of the images are from this one house, there may be a room or two from nearby homes mixed in. Either way, I hope the photos give you plenty of inspiration.
This post contains only a selection of the pictures I took, so I’ll share a second post with more rooms and other homes another day. For now, enjoy this tour and the design ideas you can adapt to your own space.
We’re planning more fall nesting posts for next week—thanks for your comments and messages.
