Are you dreaming of new flooring? The floor you choose shapes the entire look and feel of a home. It influences decorating choices, traffic flow, and plans for future updates.

Often we inherit the existing floors and live with them for a while, but sometimes you get the fun chance to start fresh and select flooring that matches your style and lifestyle.

Kitchen painting and new floors under the paper!

I’m thrilled I had the chance this year to have new Hickory hardwood floors installed by Mohawk. We removed old stained carpet and damaged flooring left from previous renovations, and the new floors have transformed how the house feels and how we plan to furnish and decorate each room. After years of waiting to renovate, it’s exciting to see progress.

My final kitchen/family room/entry hardwood floor reveal posts will be published soon. At the moment those rooms are covered in tape and paper while the painter finishes up, so I’ve been ordered to stay out for fear of ruining the fresh paint. No full reveals yet, but they’re coming.

In the meantime, here are some hardwood floor inspiration photos. Inspiration images are invaluable when you’re making a major decision like selecting new flooring. They help you imagine finishes, patterns, and how different floors will read in a space.

When I plan a remodel, I always start by collecting magazine spreads and online photos to refine the look and feel I want to achieve. Those images spark ideas about grain, color, plank width, and layout patterns that help me develop a clear vision to share with contractors and designers.

There are so many beautiful wood floor options. Beyond species and grain, you can choose stains, surface finishes, plank widths, and installation patterns—herringbone, chevron, wide plank, or mixed-width layouts create distinct moods and architectural interest.

When choosing wood flooring, factor in your household’s lifestyle, budget, and how the new floors will relate to existing trim, cabinetry, and other materials. Some options are more durable and forgiving for active families, while others highlight character and beauty for lighter-traffic spaces.

Working with professionals is well worth it. A knowledgeable flooring dealer or installer can advise on species selection, finish types, appropriate underlayment, and installation techniques to ensure the floor looks right and performs well for years.

Although choosing floors can feel overwhelming, it’s also a rewarding process. With research and inspiration, you can find a hardwood floor that enhances your home and reflects your taste.

Even if new hardwoods aren’t on your immediate list, it’s fun to dream and gather ideas.

I’m participating in the Mohawk “Floors Me, as Told by Bloggers” program and received hardwood flooring as part of the project. As always, my opinions are my own.
