Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas: Fresh Looks for Hot Months

Because my house is in complete disarray while we prepare for new paint and flooring in several rooms, I’m not doing much summer decorating right now. Still, I’m thrilled at how much cleaner and brighter the house will feel once the work is finished — it’s almost like an intense version of summer decorating.

Today my bedroom is being painted, and next week the carpet will be pulled up and new wood installed. You can’t know how happy that makes me.

In the meantime I’m scouring the web for fresh decorating ideas for these soon-to-be renewed rooms.

I enjoy sharing what I find because it’s more fun to talk about inspiration with others who love decorating as much as I do.

Bedroom inspiration

This house has become my current obsession — my inspiration. I find myself returning to the photos daily.

Erin from House of Turquoise has posted this home tour and I keep clicking through the images. I’m sure other readers love it as much as I do.

I’ve mentioned this home before, but today I’m focusing on the bedroom. It’s one of those rooms that sticks in your mind.

I would love a bedroom like this, though I know my own won’t look the same. My floors have a yellow undertone, so yellowish walls won’t work for me, but the room still provides plenty of ideas I can adapt.

The proportions of my room are somewhat similar — smaller, fewer windows, and less elegant — but I do have some shared features like matching door frames and a vaulted ceiling. I dream of painted white wood ceilings someday; that’s a project for another year. The fan in the inspiration photos looks so much better than mine — by cool I mean truly awesome. And how fun would a yellow barn door to the bathroom be?

I love the summery feeling this inspiration room evokes: light, relaxed, and thoughtfully layered. Even if I can’t copy it exactly, the color palette, textures, and layout ideas will influence how I shape my own space.

That’s all for now — but I expect I’ll return to this room again. It’s that kind of inspiration.

Do you have a current favorite inspiration room?

P.S. My blog has been loading slowly lately while I troubleshoot a few issues. I apologize for the delays and for any trouble pinning images. Thank you for your patience — and a big thanks for all the kind words about my recently redecorated office. I’ll share sources and more details as soon as the site is running smoothly again.
