Small Accent Cabinets, Consoles & Sideboards: Organizing Ideas + Sources

Accent cabinets are an easy way to add both style and practical storage throughout the home. I often rearrange furniture to find the best layout, and accent cabinets have proven to be a flexible solution in every house I’ve lived in. They also provide extra surface space for a lamp, seasonal decor or everyday essentials.

These cabinets help keep things tidy by providing a dedicated spot for items that otherwise collect on counters or tables. They’re perfect for storing decorative items, seasonal goods, or everyday clutter. Below I’ll share ideas for how to use them, along with examples from our homes and suggested sources.

In this post you’ll find sources for several cabinets used in my home and my daughters’ homes, along with other recommendations.

Ideas for using accent cabinets:

  • Dining room: store entertaining supplies, napkins, napkin rings, wine glasses or extra dishes; use bins or baskets on shelves for small items.
  • Living room or bathroom: tuck away extra pillows, throws or toiletries; top with a lamp to warm a dark corner.
  • Entryway: stash gloves, dog leashes, reusable shopping bags, or use drawers and shelf containers for small items.
  • Kids’ rooms: organize toys and games.
  • Bathroom: store towels, bath supplies and toiletries out of sight.
  • Home office: use as a printer stand or to conceal office supplies and paperwork.

Here are accent cabinets from our homes and a set of sources linked below.
