Happy Monday! I received several nice comments and questions last week about the curtain I hung in the doorway of my entry, so I wanted to share more about it and offer some inspiration.
I actually put this curtain up over the holidays. It was an idea I’d been considering for a while, but I wasn’t sure if I should go ahead. When I found a gray striped panel with pom-poms at Target, it felt like the right time to try it.

The panel is mounted on a simple white tension rod, so it’s easy to remove if we change our minds later. I tie the curtain back with a string and a small cup hook when I want it open.
This approach won’t suit every house or every style, but I love it — and because it’s not permanent, it felt like a low-risk update.
We’ve explored multiple solutions for that doorway: closing it off and creating a new entrance for a bedroom or bathroom, installing a conventional door, or reconfiguring the area with a new bathroom and entry. All of those ideas remain options, and I’ll share updates when we decide what to do. For now, the curtain is a simple, attractive fix.
The curtain solved several small problems at once: it was inexpensive, quick to install, and it made the hallway feel cozier and quieter. It helps define the entrance to the master suite and adds a touch of privacy when we have guests.
Too often we make design projects more complicated and costly than they need to be. Even when a more permanent change might be “perfect,” I appreciate simple solutions that are effective and budget-friendly.
In past homes we’ve used curtains in doorways as well. They can define zones, add charm, and help reduce drafts in an otherwise open doorway. Curtains are a flexible option for creating separation without a full remodel.
