Welcome back to The Snug — our flexible room that serves as an office, family room, guest room and a future playroom for the grand littles. For the first two years we lived here this space doubled as temporary storage while we completed other projects. Most recently it held furniture during the kitchen renovation, so it hasn’t been the most presentable space until now.
It’s a pleasure to finally set the room up for everyday use. We enjoy spending time here, and I still love watching the ferry glide past the window.

We installed the same new hardwood throughout the house — real European White Oak engineered floors — and the change transformed the room. The warm, natural grain anchors the space and ties it to the rest of the home.
Eventually we’ll refresh the walls with paint or wallpaper and add wall sconces and window coverings, but for now we focused on furniture placement and styling.
Today I’ll share the progress on this side of the room. Most of the pieces were already here, so we focused on rearranging to make the room feel more functional and welcoming. A few furniture swaps have refreshed the layout, and we moved the leather loveseat downstairs to the living room, which opened up the Snug.
One new addition is a striped indoor/outdoor rug from a collection launching by Amber Lewis × Loloi. It’s durable enough for a hardworking family space while still feeling cozy underfoot. It adds pattern and texture without dominating the room.
The rattan twin bed was moved to this side of the room and looks right at home here. I may add a matching twin in the future, but for now the collected bedding and layered textiles create a relaxed, inviting spot for guests.
A small wooden oval stool is one of those versatile pieces that moves from room to room. It works as a nightstand, side table or extra seat when needed. I also use a wicker trunk for storing extra blankets — practical and pretty.
Our French desk has been with us for years. It functions as a workspace and as a puzzle table that gets regular use. New white rattan chairs provide lightweight, movable seating for the table or the room as a whole.
On one shelf I grouped all the books I’ve written — a practical spot for gifts, giveaways and inspiration. They add a personal touch to the room, and I’ll continue rearranging as new books and items arrive.
I’ll share the other side of the room soon. Little by little the house is coming together and it’s rewarding to see each space take shape.
