A few weeks ago my mother, my two daughters and I took a girls’ day trip to Snohomish, a charming small town in Washington.
I had never visited Snohomish before, but several readers recommended it and I was eager to go. We’re still relatively new to Washington (we moved from Portland), so we like to explore like tourists and discover what our new state has to offer. It makes everyday life feel like an adventure.
The day we went was sunny and warm—perfect for sunglasses and a relaxed stroll. We started with sandwiches and coffee at a little diner to fuel the day, then spent the afternoon wandering First Street, popping into shops, and enjoying the creative displays and unique treasures we found along the way.
Browsing with my girls is always entertaining. We have a silly habit of one of us picking up something wildly tacky or totally not our style, carrying it around casually until the others notice, and then bursting into laughter. We think we’re hilarious, and shopping with us is a nonstop giggle—at least in our own heads.
We wandered in and out of stores for most of the afternoon. I didn’t take notes on every shop, so I can’t list favorites, but many of them were delightful and full of tempting things to bring home. Several shops smelled wonderful; one had a less pleasant scent, which prompted another round of laughter once we stepped back outside.
Those are the days I love most—when I set aside the laptop and chores, head out for a simple day trip, and return refreshed. Time spent drinking coffee, discovering small boutiques, and sharing laughs with family leaves me inspired and creatively energized.
I always enjoy sharing our little excursions with you and hope they spark ideas for your own day trips and local adventures.
