Seagull Gray by Behr: Fresh Bedroom Paint Color Ideas

This post is in partnership with Behr

Hello friends! Before I share my new bedroom paint color, a quick note: I’m hosting a Color Clinic with Behr Paint this Thursday, March 15 from Noon–3pm EST (9am–Noon PST). I’ll be answering paint questions on Facebook on both The Inspired Room and Behr pages—hope you’ll stop by and say hi!

Let’s talk about our freshly repainted bedroom. We chose Seagull Gray by Behr (eggshell enamel) for the transformation. When we first moved to Seattle and I was finishing a book, the bedroom became a cozy retreat, so we painted it a dark, moody color we loved. That shade served us well through a busy season and made the room feel like a finished haven while the rest of the house was a work in progress.

Now that other areas of the house are more settled, I kept circling back to the bedroom. We genuinely liked the dark look, but I was ready for a change. Sometimes you have to push past the idea of “if it’s already done, leave it” and do what will make you happiest. So I convinced my husband to repaint—yes, again!

When your design direction becomes clearer, repainting can feel like progress rather than backtracking. It opens up opportunities to coordinate colors throughout the home and fine-tune a cohesive look. With that vision in mind, we took a big leap from a dark palette to a lighter, more serene space.

The moment the room was painted Seagull Gray we knew it was right for us. It provides a calm, peaceful backdrop that doesn’t compete with accessories or bedding. Seagull Gray reads as a subtle neutral gray, and at certain times of day it can pick up a gentle blue undertone. I love how it pairs with crisp white trim and woodwork, creating a soft contrast that feels fresh and timeless.

I’ll share a design board and more progress in an upcoming post, but for now I’ll say we’re leaning into navy and white accents to give contrast and personality. I’m also finally getting the bed I’ve wanted for years—swapping out my mom’s bed for a new piece feels like a little celebration.

Many of you asked where the cabinet went after we removed it from the dining room—now you can see it here in the hallway. I love that it doesn’t read as a traditional bedroom piece from the front entry.

For inspiration, I put together a palette that complements Seagull Gray. We painted the small round picture frame on the cabinet in City Rain from the palette. These colors can work on walls, trim, cabinets, furniture and in fabrics and accessories to create a cohesive room.

If you’re exploring color tools, Behr offers a few resources to help you refine choices and sheens. There are tools that generate palettes from Pinterest boards and others that help you select colors based on the mood you want to create—handy when you’re planning a restful bedroom.
