Christmas Front Porch
This post was created in partnership with The Home Depot; the design, photos, and porch styling are my own.
I love decorating the exterior of our home for Christmas as much as I enjoy decorating the inside. A welcoming, festive front porch feels like a gift—to family, visitors, and anyone who passes by. Some years the weather or life gets in the way and we don’t do much outdoors, but when I make the effort I always wish I’d done it sooner.
This year I made it happen. I wanted a festive, rustic fairytale vibe—something that feels like a cozy holiday escape when you arrive home. I kept the design simple and focused on a few key elements so the porch would feel charming without being complicated to create.

Three elements I used to create the look:
- Festive lights
- Natural, rustic greenery
- A DIY fairytale wreath chandelier
I found beautiful fresh greenery at The Home Depot that helped establish the rustic, natural feeling I wanted around the front door. I used two strands of garland together to add extra fullness, and draped them so they flow gently around the entry.

I can’t resist small trees. This little burlap-wrapped tree with a dusting of faux snow is adorable and adds that cottage-y touch I love.

I prefer real wreaths when possible—they look lush and they smell wonderful. These wreaths add texture and a full background behind my gold reindeer, contributing both visual depth and scent to the porch display.

Icicle lights on the exposed sides of the porch create an immediate feeling of magic. The soft glow sets a festive mood and highlights architectural lines without being overpowering.

Battery-operated candles are indispensable where open flames would be risky. They deliver a warm glow tucked into greenery or pinecones, giving the same cozy effect as real candles but with safety and convenience.

I used plant hooks from The Home Depot’s garden section to hang lanterns. Raising some decor and candlelight adds vertical interest and makes the porch feel layered and intentional.

The pre-lit stick tree is whimsical and pairs nicely with real greenery and poinsettias on a small tea cart. One of my favorite DIY projects is the fairytale boxwood wreath chandelier—next to my birch bark monogram wreath, it’s a top pick. I absolutely adore how it looks.
The wreath chandelier is charming and eye-catching as you approach the porch. It sets the festive tone and makes a lovely focal point around the lantern.

I find myself checking the porch throughout the day because it makes me so happy to see it glowing.
Tomorrow I’ll share a step-by-step tutorial for making the wreath chandelier with more photos. If you enjoyed this look, come back—it’s an easy project you’ll love making.
We plan to make this wreath chandelier every year from now on!

Thanks for visiting my festive front porch! See you tomorrow!
