I’m ready to make more improvements to our house. I have a list of ideas that keeps growing, but today I want to focus on one of our bathroom projects. We have two bathrooms that need updating. You may remember the vintage mint and pink master bathroom I shared some time ago. I keep imagining different ways to refresh it.
Sometimes I picture a small refresh, other times I think about tearing it out and starting over. Occasionally I consider adding a new powder room on the main floor and leaving the vintage bathroom intact, and sometimes I even entertain the idea of reworking our entire main floor layout. The mint and pink bathroom looked acceptable in the first photos we took when we moved in, but it’s showing its age more and more.
I want to make the right decision. The pandemic disrupted many plans, and it’s hard to know what’s next. Should we pause projects, move, or stay and keep improving this home? I tend to overthink these choices—I prefer to take my time and make thoughtful decisions for our family and home.
Given the season we’re in, it feels sensible to hold off on any major renovations. Still, I want to keep moving forward with projects that are manageable now. I’ve settled on a plan that lets us make progress without committing to a large overhaul just yet.
For now, we’re excited to begin a DIY makeover of the basement bathroom.

The basement bathroom feels dated and uninspired, but structurally it’s in decent condition. That means relatively simple updates—fresh paint, new lighting, a mirror and faucet, and thoughtful accessories—will make a big visual impact without a full remodel.
If you caught my recent post with a peek at our basement, this is the bathroom on that floor. It currently serves my daughter Courtney while she’s living here and doubles as our guest bathroom. Once the basement bathroom is refreshed, we’ll have a comfortable space to use while we decide on plans for the upstairs bathroom.
Over the next few weeks I’ll share DIY bathroom inspiration, mood boards, and the makeover plan for this space. We’ll document the process on the blog and on Instagram stories so you can follow along and ask questions.
I’ve been using Instagram stories more often to share day-to-day moments and behind-the-scenes updates. It’s a great way to connect, and I’d love to see you there. I’ll do a short walkthrough on Instagram stories next week to show the bathroom in its current state and talk through initial ideas.
Have you completed a DIY bathroom makeover recently? It’s been a while since I updated a bathroom, and I’m excited to get started!
