Framed Chalkboard / Zinc Card Holder
Thought you might enjoy seeing how I decorated my chalkboard for the holidays (excuse the grainy photo — I grabbed it from my phone).
It definitely looks festive. But if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by holiday expectations, here’s a little confession that might help: this chalkboard has had fall leaves on it since last year.
Yes, really.
Not leaves we drew a couple of months ago — the same fall leaves that were drawn in fall of 2016.
That means the chalkboard displayed fall leaves through:
Christmas 2016
Winter 2017
Spring 2017
Summer 2017
And now fall again this year — which, I suppose, means if you keep a seasonal look long enough, eventually you’ll be on-trend at least once a year.
So let’s not let a chalkboard define us or tell us who we are.

I even had the tree up by Thanksgiving, which made me feel accomplished at the time. But remember: the same board had fall leaves at Easter.
If that eases your holiday anxiety, know that our house is actually pitch black outside right now.
We were trying to install a new porch light and something went wrong. So not only are there no twinkling Christmas lights visible from the street, none of our outdoor or porch lights are working.
Our dark house is probably freaking out the neighbors — they must think we’re secret members of the Scrooge family.
But I’m owning it. It is what it is. I’ll walk inside with my head held high and say, “Our light comes from within.”
Clearly I don’t have everything perfectly together, but I plan to get cozy by the tree and enjoy the season anyway. I hope you do the same, regardless of what your chalkboard says or how your house looks from the street.
Hope you’re having a cozy Wednesday!
