A small lamp for a bookshelf or countertop can brighten a dim corner. This mini opal glass lamp is an ideal size and a lovely solution for compact spaces. Pair it with a color-changing dimmable bulb for the most flexible mood lighting.
Hello, friends — it’s Courtney! I’ve been settling into my new apartment with my husband, and while I’ll share wedding photos and planning tips soon, today I wanted to show a small decor find that made a big difference in our living room.
Are you looking for a small lamp for a bookshelf or countertop?
We needed a mini lamp for a bookshelf tucked into a dark corner. It was surprisingly hard to find a lamp short enough to fit the shelf without feeling crowded. After a long search, I finally found this mini opal glass lamp that measures just 10 inches tall — the perfect fit.
This compact opal glass lamp is beautifully made and fits neatly on narrow shelves.
The lamp arrived today and I love it. The mouth-blown glass has a soft, milk-glass appearance and the quality feels solid. If you have a small space that could use a little ambient light, this lamp is worth considering.

I saw other mini lamps that were short but would still become too tall once a shade was added. I almost gave up until this one fit the bill. We already have a very similar mini glass lamp that’s even shorter (8.26 inches) on another shelf, so it’s nice to have a couple of scaled options around the apartment.

Try a Color Changing Lightbulb
A fun tip: the lamp looks lovely switched off with its white milk-glass look, but using a color-changing dimmable bulb with a remote gives you full control over brightness and color temperature. That prevents the light from looking too cool through the white shade and lets you customize the mood.
You can change the shade’s apparent color and create a soft glow that complements your decor. The bulbs often include modes like “strobe” or “smooth” that cycle through colors if you want a playful effect.

I especially like the warm amber setting for evenings because it casts a cozy, orangey glow. Switching between colors is an easy way to change the atmosphere without moving furniture or changing decor.

The white shade is elegant on its own, but the color options make the lamp versatile for different moods and occasions. I usually choose a warm hue for a soft, inviting feel.

The lamp also pairs nicely with other glass accents on the shelf, like a hand-blown diffuser, creating a cohesive, layered look without cluttering the space.

If you have a narrow shelf, a small countertop, or an entry niche that could use a little extra light, consider a compact opal glass lamp and a color-changing bulb. It’s an easy, affordable way to add warmth and personality.
