HHello! I’m Courtney (Melissa’s daughter). While my mom and dad are enjoying a well-deserved Hawaiian vacation, I wanted to share a personal update about an exciting new chapter in my life and home.
If you follow me on Instagram or have been reading The Inspired Room for a while, you may know I’ve lived in my first Seattle apartment for the past two and a half years. It’s been a special place — my first real home on my own, aside from a tiny bedroom I rented at my sister Kylee’s house. You can find a tour of that earlier space on the blog.
Today I’m sharing big news: I’m moving. It’s a bittersweet decision because I truly love my apartment. So much has happened here — personal growth, plant triumphs and a few plant casualties (RIP to my crispy greens). This apartment has been a cozy sanctuary for recharging every day.

Why move? I could easily stay and be content, but I have other dreams I want to pursue. Leaving a home that has served me well is bittersweet, but I’m intentionally stepping into a new season I’m excited about.
Here’s the fun part: the move comes with a new design project. Designing a space is one of the best parts of moving, and I’ve already started planning.
Where am I going? I’ll be turning my parents’ lower level into a cozy apartment for myself, starting in February.

You may have seen glimpses of their lower level here on the blog. It already has many advantages: new wood floors, bright windows, an exterior entrance into the office, a bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, and a living room with a fireplace. I’ll convert the laundry area into a compact apartment kitchen, though there’s a lovely kitchen upstairs I’ll still use from time to time.
Another perk is being much closer to my two favorite fluffy white dogs, Jack and Lily. I also work full time for The Inspired Room, so my commute will be delightfully short.

I’ve been putting together design plans, hunting for smart small-space storage, and planning a few DIY projects I hope go well. I’ll document the whole process here on the blog and on my Instagram stories, so I’d love for you to follow along.

I’ll miss my apartment, but dreaming up and creating this new space fills me with energy and inspiration.

How long will I live there? I don’t have a set timeline. I expect to stay at least six months while I save more (Seattle is expensive), which will help me reach goals like travel and, someday, buying a house. Maybe I’ll stay longer — or maybe I’ll surprise everyone with another move. Time will tell.
I’m excited for this new adventure and hope you’ll enjoy following along.
