Welcome to my fall house tour. I’m thrilled you’re here — it feels like ages since I shared a seasonal tour. After moving into this house last year, it’s been a joy to unpack and begin making this place feel like home. This post is a chance to invite you in, show several rooms at once, and share the cozy touches I add each fall.

I’m excited to be part of the Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours today, hosted by Lindsay of The White Buffalo Styling Co.

If you’re coming from Shauna’s lovely home at The House of Silver Lining, welcome — I’m so glad you stopped by.

I celebrated my tenth year of blogging this past July, and fall has always been one of my favorite seasons to style the house. This is the third home I’ve lived in since I began blogging, and the decorating approach has stayed consistent: keep things simple and achievable. For fall I like to add texture, warm layers, and a few natural seasonal accents rather than over-the-top displays.

This little house is very much a work in progress, inside and out, so you’ll see a mix of cozy styling and ongoing updates throughout the photos.

My decorating philosophy is straightforward: keep things simple and doable. In autumn I layer texture and add a few natural elements to bring warmth without overcomplicating the space.

Rather than a post full of Pinterest-perfect pumpkin arrangements, this tour shows how our home feels in the fall — the current stage of our remodel and everyday life. At the end of the post you’ll find a source list for furniture, lighting, and accessories. I have many photos to share, so let’s take a look around.

I’ll share our main living areas here and post the bedroom tour tomorrow. In the coming weeks I’ll update you on the lower level and our upcoming galley kitchen remodel and Dutch door installation. Those projects start soon, so stay tuned for progress updates.

If you notice new items in these photos, it’s likely they’re recent additions I haven’t written about yet. I’ll share full posts and specifics in the coming weeks — consider this a preview with more details to follow.

Below is a short backstory of our house for anyone new or needing a refresher.

The brief backstory of our “white brick cottage”

We bought this small 1950s red brick house in Seattle a year ago. Initially it wasn’t the type of home I imagined for myself, but we needed to move quickly and it offered light-filled rooms, a lovely yard, and beautiful views of sunsets, mountains, and the Sound. The house had great bones and plenty of potential.

Our goal is to preserve the modest scale and character — white plaster walls, original floors, and brick and stone details — while updating the home with a fresh, modern cottage look. We love an eclectic coastal farmhouse vibe and are applying that inside and out.

This summer we painted the exterior, transforming the red brick into the white brick cottage we now call home. I adore the painted brick; it already feels like it was meant to be ours.

There’s still work to do outside: finish concrete, install a Dutch door at the porch, wrap the porch posts, add railings, and install a front fence and gate. We’ll continue improving curb appeal next year, but painting the exterior already made a huge difference.

One of our first projects was a simple fireplace update that made a big visual difference. Small, budget-friendly changes like this can transform a room and make it feel refreshed.

We’ll open up the doorway between the dining room and kitchen into an arch as part of the upcoming remodel. The image above gives a glimpse of where the arch and new kitchen will be — I can’t wait to share our kitchen plans and mood in future posts.

This summer we added a shiplap wall in the dining room to introduce more character. Small architectural details like shiplap can add texture and interest without changing the footprint of a space.
