New year, new projects. After a relaxing start to the year on a Hawaiian beach, I returned home eager to make progress on our house. With my daughter Courtney moving into the lower level next month, we’ve begun transforming that area into a cozy, functional apartment for her. We’ll share the full design plan soon, but one of the first priorities is creating a dedicated home office and improving storage and work surfaces.
Currently the office occupies the lower level where Courtney’s sitting room and bedroom will be, so we’re preparing a new workspace. Over the years our work for The Inspired Room and Dwell Well Collective has grown, and our needs have expanded accordingly. That means reorganizing, selling pieces we no longer need, and finding better ways to use underutilized or multi-purpose rooms.
As we rethink the layout, I’ve been gathering inspiration for multifunctional spaces — rooms that combine work and living areas without feeling cluttered. Below are some examples that show how a small footprint can become both practical and welcoming.
Do you have a dedicated home office or a double-duty space you use for work?

If you missed the earlier update about Courtney’s move, you can read the details in my previous post. We’re documenting the process as we go and will share ideas for making a lower-level apartment both comfortable and efficient.
If you’re looking for more inspiration, I’ve gathered ideas for creative studios and craft rooms, and you can also explore favorite decor finds and a recent house tour for additional styling tips.
Have you joined The Inspired Room Community yet? It’s free. I love seeing photos of your homes, discussing design questions, and sharing ideas. I have lots of plans for this group this year — come join us and hang out!
