31 Days of Autumn Bliss — Day 24: Sunday Drive-By

Time for another Autumn Sunday drive-by

I have a soft spot for fairy-tale houses and enjoy spotting homes that stand apart from cookie-cutter designs. On a recent drive I came across a charming house perched on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle with a beautiful view of the city.

The property felt whimsical and unique down to the giant chess pieces placed on the lawn—an unexpected, playful touch that suits the fairy-tale vibe.

I love getting close to appreciate the details: the lanterns flanking the door, the ironwork above the entrance, and the decorative moldings around the windows and beneath the sills. These carefully chosen accents give the exterior a handcrafted, storybook quality.

I felt a little like an observer on the sidewalk—curious and careful not to intrude—while taking in the charming details. The homeowners must have noticed me peeking; the shutters were closed soon after.

Looking up, I noticed an arched window with what appears to be a stained-glass skylight beyond it. The arched shapes add to the home’s enchanting silhouette and create a soft, historic character.

The overall composition of the house is distinct and inviting—I couldn’t help wondering what the interior looks like. The balcony and the thoughtful exterior details inspire imaginations of cozy rooms and antique touches inside.

Even the street in front of the house felt a touch storybook—ivy and mature plantings soften the scene and enhance that old-world mood.

Do you have any fairy-tale houses where you live?

Thanks for joining me on this little drive-by.
