This year I set out to create a place for everything in my home. Progress has been gradual, but I’ve made it a goal to tackle at least one drawer or small area every month. Those small wins add up.
One shallow drawer had been filled with tea, which wasn’t the best use of space. Because the drawer is shallow, it’s perfect for flatware. I decided to move our pretty stainless flatware with bamboo detailing—sets we use for holidays and entertaining—into that drawer since it sits directly across from the table and is much more convenient.
To make the most of the space I added a couple of bamboo organizers, which helped maximize capacity and keep everything neat and accessible.
The whole switch took just a few minutes, but every time I open the drawer I’m happier with the tidy, functional result.
I also reorganized the coffee cabinet above the flatware drawer to make room for a new espresso maker. I shifted a few items and adjusted the layout so the cabinet functions well for daily coffee prep. There’s still room to pare things down further, but for now it’s efficient and practical.
Often the biggest barrier to decluttering is thinking a project will take too long, which leads to procrastination. That feeling of falling behind can make the whole process feel overwhelming. Lately I’ve been intentionally doing small organizing tasks in short pockets of time, even if the result is imperfect. Those small efforts keep momentum going and reduce stress.
