Thank you so much for the kind comments about my kitchen remodel and reveal. I admit I was nervous to share it—wondering if it would be well received—so your warm feedback was a huge relief. Blogging can feel vulnerable, and your responses made me breathe easier. Thank you!
One of the most common questions has been about the bamboo blinds. I hadn’t posted details yet, so this is a quick follow-up to share where I got them and why I chose them. I’ve read every comment and will address more questions in upcoming posts about kitchen sources and a DIY island makeover.

As the kitchen and family room came together last fall and the window trim was painted, I initially loved the clean, open look of having no blinds. But because our view isn’t ideal and we wanted more privacy, I decided to install bamboo blinds—an old favorite from my previous house.
Above is the family room while painting was in progress, showing the previous blinds in place.

While fabric roman shades or curtains are always beautiful, I found the bamboo roman-style shades to be the most practical choice here. They add natural warmth to the upper part of the room, balancing the floor tones. I love their texture and timelessness—unlike a trendy fabric, bamboo will coordinate with different decor through the years. If I ever want extra softness, curtain panels can be added later, so bamboo felt like the best overall solution.

I’ve long favored these tortoise-colored bamboo shades for their rich, layered coloring. I worried they might darken the room too much, but they ended up being the perfect finishing touch. Texture is essential in a room, and these shades contribute an important layer.

Up close, the blinds have subtle variations, including a faint greenish hint mixed with the wood tones. That slight undertone was intentional—I wanted depth and contrast with the blues in the kitchen. Using multiple shades and undertones adds interest compared with matching everything to the exact same tone.

For visual continuity through the kitchen and family room, I chose the same blinds for every window, including the sliding door. Because my doors are tall, an inside mount works well—each door has two blinds so panels can be opened independently. The family room windows use three separate blinds on a single header for flexibility.
All blinds here are installed as inside mounts because I love my window trim. If your setup requires an outside mount—no trim, shallow frames, or you want the blinds mounted higher—you can order outside mount versions. Either way, the bamboo shades look great.

We chose bamboo partly for how they look when pulled up and partly for occasional needs: bright summer days in the Northwest, extra warmth on cool days, or added privacy. They operate smoothly, which encourages regular use. I’d like to add similar shades to the front of the house and dining room in the future.
We haven’t yet installed cord wraps, so that’s on my to-do list. I plan to add small hooks at the window sides to keep cords neatly tucked away.

The ordering process was straightforward—I measured and ordered from my phone and everything turned out beautifully. Installation was simple too; my husband and I installed them together during what we jokingly called our “blind date.” If we can install them, most DIYers will find it easy.
