While big projects like a remodel or new furniture are exciting, keeping your home feeling fresh long-term is often about small, inexpensive changes. These little updates are what I do most often in my own home to stay inspired and content without a big budget.
Here are 10 easy and affordable ways to refresh your home for spring!
1) Bring a burst of spring to the entry.
Create an inviting entryway by adding a small seasonal touch: a simple wreath, a bright doormat, or a vase of fresh stems. Even swapping a welcome sign or switching out a throw rug can set a sunnier tone as soon as you walk in.
2) Decorate your mantel.
Use what you already own. Clear away winter decor and display a stack of pretty books, a favorite collection, a fresh bouquet, or a framed family photo. Group items in odd numbers and vary heights for visual interest.
3) Get into a springy mood and rearrange some shelves.
Sometimes moving things around is all it takes. Reconfigure books, art, and accessories on shelves or console tables to create a lighter, more seasonal look. Removing a few heavier items and adding a small plant or ceramic piece can refresh the whole space.
4) Set a pretty table.
Clear off clutter, wipe the surface clean, and set a simple, cheerful table. A few fresh flowers, a cloth napkin, or a decorative bowl can turn everyday dining into something that feels special and springlike.
5) Shop at a flea market.
Treasures found secondhand add character and personality. Hunt for affordable pieces—picture frames, baskets, or small furniture—you can bring home, mix in with what you already have, and place in new spots to change the room’s rhythm.
6) Plant a 5 minute garden.
Working with plants is restorative. Create a quick indoor garden with succulents or small potted plants. They’re low maintenance and bring life and texture to shelves, windowsills, or tabletops.
7) Line the inside of a door or a wall with inspiring art or postcards.
Display postcards, photos, or printed art that remind you of happy places or dreams. A gallery of small prints inside a closet door or along a narrow wall adds personality and daily inspiration without a big commitment.
8) Freshen up the bedroom.
Add a new pattern or color through pillows, a throw, or a lampshade to brighten your bedroom. Small textile changes can dramatically alter the mood and make the room feel renewed for the season.
9) Spray paint something.
Give an old accessory new life with spray paint. Candlesticks, picture frames, and small decor items can look fresh in white, gold, or any color that complements your room. It’s an easy, affordable way to update pieces you already own.
10) Clean out a drawer and make it pretty inside.
Open a drawer and treat yourself to a neat, pleasant interior. Add liners, dividers, or simply tidy and arrange items so the drawer brings a small moment of joy when you open it.
