It’s the most wonderful time of the year. For the first time in several holiday seasons I don’t have a major book deadline, so I’m enjoying a slower pace and more time for the little rituals that make this season feel truly special.

One of those rituals is a gingerbread house night with friends and family.

The gingerbread house in the photo stopped me in my Instagram scroll — my friend Rebekah shared it and her sisters made it. It’s gorgeous and inspiring. Mine will probably be much simpler, but that’s part of the fun: imperfect, cozy, and full of memories.

Here are a few gingerbread kits you can still find for your holiday fun:

You can also try a gingerbread house bundt pan—an easy alternative to assembling pieces by hand.

A few more Christmas activities on our list:

  • Making Christmas cookies—last year we tried vegan, gluten-free gingerbread and they turned out adorable and delicious.
  • Attending a Christmas Eve church service with our whole family. This year we’re also hosting extended family, which makes it even more meaningful.
  • Driving through favorite neighborhoods to admire houses covered in holiday lights and decorations.
  • Sipping hot cider and watching family-favorite movies—like Father of the Bride, which has become a cozy holiday tradition for us even though it isn’t strictly a Christmas film.

What’s one magical thing you’re most looking forward to this Christmas season?
