Coastal Cottage Bedroom Makeover
Recently I’ve been sharing some of the design refreshes around our house. Last week I promised to show the “after” of our guest room summer update. So, here it is: a coastal cottage bedroom makeover!

I love the new look. I didn’t change everything, but a few thoughtful updates made the space feel fresh and brand new.

Guest Bedroom Design Details
This room focuses on comfort, texture and personality. Key additions include a new mattress, striped curtain panels with pom-pom trim, and a wood beaded chandelier.
I enjoy decorating slowly and being patient with the process because it lets you collect pieces you truly love. We waited to add a statement light fixture, and that patience paid off. Some fixtures were outside our budget, so I watched for something special and affordable. Light fixtures change a room, so choosing the right one matters.

Because this is a small room, I needed a fixture on a smaller scale. I often shop the kids or teen sections of quality retailers for pieces with great style at smaller sizes and better prices—perfect for lower ceilings and compact spaces.

Waiting for a few key items made me appreciate each detail even more. When the pieces finally came together, the room felt complete and inviting.

A Quality Mattress
The most luxurious element in the room is our new Stearns & Foster mattress. My husband and I had a Stearns & Foster for over 15 years and moved it through five homes, so we know the brand well. Comfortable sleep is essential, and a good mattress belongs at the heart of a well-designed bedroom.
Although new curtains and lighting are fun, sleep is my favorite part. I’m thrilled to have a brand new Stearns & Foster in our home again. It’s so comfortable that it completely changes the way the room feels.

This mattress isn’t like the lightweight models that arrive in a box. It feels substantial, well-built and luxuriously comfortable. Lying on it feels supportive and plush at the same time—almost like being hugged by a cloud. The balance of support and plushness is just right.

Beyond comfort, the mattress is beautifully crafted. The quilting, tufting and trim are visually satisfying, and even the leather handles are a thoughtful touch. It’s clearly designed with both style and function in mind.

Everyone in the family agrees: this guest room is now the coziest spot in the house.

We’re ready for summer vacation—though a warning if you add a Stearns & Foster mattress to a guest room: no one will want to leave.

Guests tend to settle in immediately and make themselves at home. That’s exactly the point of a thoughtful guest room: comfort and welcome.

Comfort is key in a guest room, and this makeover delivers.

I’d say the makeover is complete.
