Hi friends, Michaela here with a cozy Fall DIY you can make in an afternoon. I love this season — boots, sweaters and the crisp air make everything feel fresh. One of my favorite rituals is curling up on the sofa with a steaming cup of tea, cider, or hot cocoa. A pretty mug with gold polka dots makes that moment feel extra special, so I’m sharing an easy way to create your own.

This simple project is great for gifting, a rainy-day craft with kids, or a quick refresh for your own kitchen. The supplies are minimal and the result looks boutique — think Kate Spade vibes but made at home.

Materials
White ceramic mugs (I found mine at Target), glass paint (I used Martha Stewart Crafts), circular sponge brushes or round stamp tools, and an oven for curing.
Directions
1. Wash and dry the mug thoroughly to remove any oils or dust.
2. Dip a circular sponge brush into the glass paint and stamp evenly spaced dots around the mug. You can vary the size of the dots or keep them uniform for a cleaner look.
3. Allow the paint to dry briefly on the surface according to the paint manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Place the mug on the top rack of a cold oven, then heat to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 minutes to set the paint.
5. Turn the oven off and let the mug cool inside the oven to avoid sudden temperature changes.
6. Wait 24 hours after baking before washing. Many glass paints become dishwasher-safe after curing, but hand washing will prolong the finish.

The paint comes in many colors, so you can personalize mugs for birthdays, hostess gifts, or seasonal swaps. I’m still loving gold — it’s warm, elegant, and perfect for autumn.

I like to try my new mug right away with a warm, spiced cider. It’s simple to make and fills the kitchen with autumn aromas.
Simple Apple Cider
Pour your favorite apple juice into a saucepan and warm over low to medium heat. Add two cinnamon sticks broken in half, a few whole cloves or a pinch of allspice, and strips of orange peel for brightness. Heat until steaming but not boiling, then ladle into your mug and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

These polka dot mugs are an easy, budget-friendly craft that feels polished. Use different paint colors for seasonal sets or match a friend’s kitchen colors for a thoughtful gift. If you craft with kids, supervise the baking step and consider using food-safe, lead-free paints made for ceramics.

Enjoy your cozy sips and happy crafting. Happy October!
