Who’s ready for warm, sunny days? I certainly am. While some places are still seeing snow, we’ve had a few bright, cheerful days that make me eager to spend more time outdoors.

When the sun comes out, I love having small outdoor destinations where I can enjoy a cup of coffee, a picnic lunch, or simply relax with a good book. Creating cozy spots in the yard makes those sunny moments feel special.

A few weeks ago I found a hammock, coordinating pillows and the sweetest little bistro set — a table and two chairs — at T.J.Maxx that fit perfectly with my ideas for the yard. These pieces made it easy to create inviting spots without much fuss or expense.

One of the things I love about having a decent-sized backyard is the ability to carve out several distinct areas for different activities. Even a small patch of grass can become a charming destination with a bit of thought — no fancy patio required. Affordable finds make it even easier to style these spaces.

When the sun appeared last week I was practically skipping through the yard. I also picked up an adorable picnic basket that inspired visions of easy outdoor meals. Living in Seattle means we have great parks nearby and two beaches just minutes from home, so this basket will get plenty of use.

How could you not smile over a basket this sweet?

The basket has a cheerful watermelon-print interior and includes plates, cutlery, a tablecloth, napkins, goblets and a bottle opener — everything you need for a spontaneous picnic.

I also found a stylish planter with a wood stand that I’ve been hunting for. It’s a simple detail that adds a lot of personality, and it was an excellent value.

To set the mood in my outdoor nook, I added a wooden lantern with a rope handle and a battery-operated candle. It creates a cozy glow at dusk and makes the space feel inviting even as the light fades.

I’ve wanted a hammock in the backyard for years, and hanging this one felt like a small dream come true. It’s the perfect spot for a lazy afternoon nap or a quiet moment among the camellia bushes. I’m still getting the hang of balancing, but it’s already become a favorite spot.

Adding a few new pillows brought extra comfort and a bit of style to the hammock and seating area. Small accents like these make an outdoor spot feel finished and welcoming.

Overall, my online spring shopping for the backyard was a success. T.J.Maxx updates its selection frequently, so it’s worth checking back often. Shopping online is convenient and allows you to style your space at your own pace.

If you’re restless waiting for warmer weather, consider gathering a few pieces now so you’ll be ready when the sun returns. A simple accessory or two can turn a corner of the yard into a go-to spot for relaxation.

Even if spring takes a little longer to arrive, a cheerful picnic basket and a cozy hammock can bring a bit of sunshine into your days.

Happy day!
