Summer Room Refresh Ideas to Cool and Brighten Your Space

Summertime in the Pacific Northwest is wonderful, especially on sunny days. Lately we’ve been enjoying some exceptional weather, and it makes the house feel brighter and more inviting.

Large windows across the back of our home bring in a lot of natural light year-round, and that sunlit backdrop influences how we arrange and style our rooms. The extra daylight highlights textures and colors, so I often choose pieces and fabrics that look warm and fresh when the sun hits them.

As we head into our second summer in this house, I’m feeling motivated to make a few changes in the living room. The sunshine has me reconsidering layout, textiles and small decorative details—simple updates that make the space feel lighter and more relaxed. Sometimes a little shift, like swapping a throw or changing a pillow grouping, is all it takes to refresh a room for the season.

You may have seen glimpses of the current project in my Instagram stories this week. I shared a few behind-the-scenes moments of the living room refresh, but I’ll post a full walkthrough and photos on the blog soon so you can see the finished result and learn what inspired each choice.

Do you feel inspired to change your decor when the sun is shining?
