I love baskets. I use them throughout the house — in the pantry, under the kitchen island, and tucked into shelving and benches. They’re supremely practical for corralling everyday items, but they also add warmth and texture to a room. A well-chosen basket can make storage feel intentional instead of cluttered.

This is one of my newest baskets and one of my favorites. It’s versatile and looks great styled with linens, pillows, or seasonal decor. Baskets come in many shapes and sizes, from woven seagrass and rattan to wire and canvas, so you can choose a material and tone that complements your room.
I love these spaces and how they use baskets for organization:

Baskets are a simple way to maintain order while keeping items accessible. Use a basket to hide toys in the family room, to store extra throws by the sofa, or to group cleaning supplies under a sink. In entryways, a low basket holds shoes or scarves; in bedrooms, baskets keep magazines, knitting projects, or laundry out of sight but easy to reach. Choosing baskets with lids or using liners can protect contents and create a tidier appearance.
When arranging baskets, consider scale and balance. Mix larger baskets on the floor with smaller ones on shelves. Group two or three similarly toned baskets for visual cohesion. Textural contrast — for example, a woven basket next to a metal bin — adds interest without clutter. Labels can help family members quickly find what they need, but often the visual grouping alone is enough to keep things organized.
Beyond function, baskets contribute to a room’s style. Neutral woven baskets bring a relaxed, natural vibe, while painted or patterned baskets can add color and personality. Leather-handled baskets feel elevated and work well in minimalist or modern settings. For seasonal decorating, swap out liners or add fresh greenery and ribbon for an instant update.
