2013 was a productive and exciting year for projects around my home
I had so much fun tackling projects and making this house feel like my home. There were so many changes and updates that summarizing everything in a single post felt impossible — so I’m sharing highlights in manageable chunks. Below I’ll review improvements to the kitchen, entry and backyard, and you can explore related posts at your leisure.
First, I’ll cover kitchen, entry and backyard updates. I’ll follow up with another post covering makeovers and projects from other rooms. You can find PART TWO of the roundup for more updates.

If you’re new here or missed earlier posts, I recently shared a candid look at my journey toward a dream home, including the highs and the challenges along the way.
Below are highlights from 2013: favorite projects, updates to the kitchen, entry and backyard, plus a few crafty moments.

Two favorite projects from the year
DIY bottle lamp and a DIY map wallpaper that added character and a personal touch to rooms.

Entry updates
A new dresser found at a thrift store refreshed the entry, seasonal fall decorating added warmth, and an entry makeover improved function and style.

Crafty moments
Small projects throughout the year brought simple delight: a felt heart garland for Valentine’s, teacup gardens for indoor greenery, book page art, and a knockoff pillow inspired by a favorite store.

Garage and backyard projects
I added planter ideas like a teacart plant stand, built an easy DIY firepit for cozy evenings, organized tools with pegboard, and worked on a pea-gravel patio to create a low-maintenance outdoor living space.

The kitchen — the big project of the year
The kitchen remodel was the major transformation. I revealed the remodel and shared posts about the pantry organization, a DIY island makeover using unfinished furniture, professionally painted trim, and creating a cozy coffee station. I also focused on making everyday items more beautiful, like wooden spoons and functional displays.

Styling open shelves
I enjoyed styling open shelves with a mix of colorful and white dishes, arranging cookbooks, and experimenting with displays that balance function and beauty.

There’s more to share — PART TWO of the house projects roundup continues with additional room makeovers, recipes, and other projects.

Wishing you a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a happy start to the new year.
I’ll be back soon with more highlights from other room makeovers, favorite recipes, puppy updates, and whatever else I missed.
