9 Weeks Until Christmas: My Christmas Tree Decorating Plans

Woodland-Theme-Christmas-Tree

Do you remember my Christmas tree from last year? My sweet woodland tree with its tiny animals, glittery gold accents and burlap touches? I loved that tree and I hesitated to take it down. Those woodland elements will return sometime—maybe on another tree, or in a fresh vignette. I can’t wait to bring them back.

Believe it or not, it’s time to think about Christmas decor again.

Yes, I know it’s October. Don’t panic—I’m one of those bloggers who starts early. Having a Christmas tree next to my fall pumpkins may seem odd, but planning ahead lets me enjoy the season without stress.

Over the years I’ve grown used to talking about Christmas early. I still celebrate fall, but I also like to plan decorations in advance because the holidays sneak up quickly. With only nine weeks until Christmas, preparing now means I can do more of the things I want and have more fun along the way.

A few weeks ago my daughters and I went to our local Michaels craft store for a holiday shopping trip. We had a gift card for the outing, which made it extra fun.

Although our woodland tree is a favorite, this year we wanted to explore a new theme. I love the push to try something different while still staying true to what fits our home. We also enjoy keeping some traditional ornaments, so we often do several smaller trees with different looks.

We walked into Michaels without a plan, until a pretty display caught our eye. It suggested a snowy tree look—without resorting to flocking. That inspired us to think about how to create a white winter wonderland using unexpected accents.

We chose soft, textured elements to give the tree a snowy, cozy feel.

Poofy accents that add volume and interest.

Fluffy trims that feel soft and wintry.

Glittery floral picks that catch the light like frosty blooms.

We also discovered a charming printed burlap ribbon that we’ll use elsewhere in our holiday decor this year. For this particular tree, we decided on a different garland to maintain the snowy aesthetic—you’ll see it when we reveal the finished tree.

We’re excited to begin decorating and to see how the different elements come together to create a winter-inspired tree that still feels warm and welcoming.

There’s another reason I’m starting early: I’m joining a Holiday House Walk hosted by the talented Jennifer Rizzo the first week of December.

More than 30 bloggers will participate in the online house tour, so it will be full of inspiration. I’m scheduled to be on the first day after Jen, which means I’m racing the calendar to have my tour ready.

With the house tour only about four weeks away, I need to begin now. If you were my neighbor we’d make a decorating party of it—what fun that would be!

Mark your calendars: the Holiday House Walk starts December 2, and I’ll be sharing my snowy white winter wonderland tree on Friday, November 1st.

Have you decided how you’ll decorate your tree this year?
