This post is sponsored by The Home Depot, but all opinions and my stories are my own.
I believe everyone deserves a safe, comfortable home they love. For years our family organized a monthly service day through our church to help neighbors with home improvements. We assisted with building projects, tackled small repairs, helped families prepare for moves, and joined neighborhood cleanups so communities would feel cared for and supported.

Much of our work focused on military families, who often face challenging transitions and long deployments. Helping to improve their homes felt like a meaningful way to show appreciation for their sacrifices and to offer practical support during difficult seasons.
The Home Depot Foundation’s annual Celebration of Service campaign is one initiative I admire. From September 1 through Veterans Day, Team Depot—The Home Depot’s associate volunteers—leads efforts across the country to improve the homes and lives of veterans. While Team Depot volunteers serve communities year-round, this two-month campaign concentrates resources and volunteer energy to support veterans in every community where The Home Depot operates.

My family supports Team Depot’s work by participating in the #ServiceSelfie initiative. For each #ServiceSelfie shared on Twitter and Instagram through Veterans Day, The Home Depot Foundation donates $1, up to a total of $500,000, to nonprofits that serve veterans. Beneficiary organizations for the campaign include Meals on Wheels America, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Team Rubicon, Student Veterans of America and Volunteers of America.
You can take part by snapping a selfie while volunteering—alone or with a group—and posting it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #ServiceSelfie. Engage with other participants by liking, commenting on, and reposting their photos to help raise awareness and increase donations. This simple action helps fund nonprofit programs that support veterans and their families.
I’d love to see your #ServiceSelfie—tag me @theinspiredroom so I can celebrate your contribution with you.
