Home Projects I’m Working On to Make My House Happier

Hi friends! As I mentioned last week, I’m in the middle of several home updates and planning a few new projects I’m really excited about.

My favorite phase of home design is when the big tasks are mostly finished and the overall mood of the house becomes clearer. That’s when the fun begins—adding the smaller refinements and details that give each room personality.

We still have larger projects ahead—like updating our mint-and-pink bathroom—but this season already feels more manageable since several projects are underway or completed.

I love imagining a new vision for a room, but what I enjoy most is the ongoing process of evolving and refining spaces in smaller, thoughtful ways.

Lately I’ve been toggling between feeling content with how far the house has come and feeling excited by new ideas I want to try. As a creative person, that balance feels like a happy place to be.

Right now I’m doing a few updates and furniture shuffles to add character and make rooms feel cozier and more pulled together—these are the projects that make me happiest.

Here’s a preview of some happy house projects happening now or coming soon:

  • I’ve already made a few simple updates to the living room this summer and I love the direction. I’ll share more soon. For starters, I added a new sisal rug and I’m enjoying the neutral base it provides.
  • I also found a statement art piece that works beautifully in the space.
  • We’re moving forward with a fireplace update after considering options. I think most of you will like the direction we chose—stay tuned.
  • This summer I’ll paint a secondhand bookshelf to create a built-in look in the living room. It’s fun to discover pieces you already own that can be refreshed to achieve the look you want with minimal cost, though I still enjoy shopping for new finds too.
  • I added a compact laptop table to the living room that’s been very handy for working at home.
  • I bought an oversized welcome doormat for the front porch that makes a great first impression.
  • I’ve been rearranging my office, including moving our favorite leather sofa into the space. I’m also adding a faux fiddle leaf fig to bring in some greenery that’s maintenance-free.
  • I ordered a new cabinet for the living room that I’m excited about—expect more changes through the summer and fall, both upstairs and down.

If you’re new here or catching up, you can take a tour of my house and see our home improvements so far, including many before-and-after photos.
