Bedroom elements on this design board in partnership with Serena & Lily
Hey friend! As I mentioned recently, we’re making a few design changes in our master bedroom. It’s a small space, but reimagining it has been really fun. I loved how it looked for the past few years—it fit the season we were in—but I’m ready to take the room in a new, more connected direction so the house feels more cohesive overall. This phase reminds me of when I updated my previous home; it was exciting to start connecting design decisions and pulling everything together.
I shared the wall color earlier this week. It’s a soft, subtle gray-blue that I really love. In some ways, this new direction echoes our last bedroom—so while it feels fresh, it also reflects a style I keep returning to. I enjoy many looks, but there’s a core aesthetic that feels most like home to me.
Today I wanted to give you a peek at our design board while we wait for the new bed to arrive in a couple of weeks. For years I’ve planned to get a new bed so I could return my mom’s bed to her. When we moved, we ended up with her bed and it became impractical to get it back to her, so I’ve been searching for the right replacement for a long time.
I haven’t bought a bed for decades and I’m picky about them. I like upholstered beds, but many I tried didn’t suit our needs—fabric, style or shape often weren’t right. The bed I kept coming back to is a beautiful wood cane bed from Serena & Lily. I love that it feels unique rather than like every other bed on the market. The wood brings warmth, the cane adds texture, and the timeless silhouette works well in our compact room. I also appreciate that it has a footboard so our blankets (and our pup Lily) won’t end up on the floor at night—it’s often the little details that matter most.

Cane Bed / Rug
We picked a rug with a whimsical pattern that I’m obsessed with. It will hide everyday wear and add softness underfoot, which is perfect for this room.

Standard Shams / Euro Shams / Linen Throw Blanket / Fringe Sheets / Chambray Tassel Pillow / Stitched Quilt
The bedding palette is mostly white with charming details like blue stitching on the quilt and fringe trim on the sheets. I’m introducing bolder patterns with the shams and accent pillows—changing pillows is one of my favorite ways to refresh a space seasonally, so I’m excited about the creative possibilities this room offers.
With the bed, rug and bedding chosen, the direction feels cohesive and calm. The mix of warm wood, soft linens and subtle blue tones gives the room a dreamy, timeless vibe. I can’t wait to share the finished makeover in a few weeks.
Redesigning this room has reminded me to listen to my design instincts as we update the rest of the house. Making choices here has already inspired other small changes around the home that better reflect what I love most.
While remodeling can be satisfying, what I enjoy most is gradually pulling the house together so every corner begins to feel like home. It takes time and patience, but when it comes together, it’s worth it.
Is there a room in your home you’re inspired to update this spring? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
