I love hanging garlands and wreaths on my mantel, front door, staircase, windows and furniture. I enjoy them draping just so, or hanging in the exact spot that looks right. For years I struggled with finding the best way to secure them without damaging surfaces or settling for a less-than-perfect placement.
I’ve tried tying, wiring, ribbon, nails, suction cups, thumbtacks and lots of other methods. Sometimes I couldn’t place the decoration exactly where I wanted, other times I regretted the permanent holes left by nails in my door or mantel. And once in a while, items tumbled to the floor. Not ideal.
OK, not sure why this picture is sideways
but you can turn your head to read it, right?
At last I found a simple trick that works better than anything else I’ve tried: Command Hooks to the rescue! These adhesive hooks let me hang garlands, wreaths and other holiday decorations exactly where I want them without permanent damage. They’re a game changer for seasonal decorating.
These hooks can stick just about anywhere to hang holiday decor!
I’ve used Command Hooks for everyday items as well — picture frames, lightweight shelves, and even a chalkboard frame on my refrigerator — and they perform reliably. Now that I’m decorating for the holidays, they are ideal for securing garlands along mantels, stairs and doorways without visible hardware or damage.
Here is a hook tucked back behind all of my holiday garland on my mantel!
My garland swoops down on my fireplace front so these hooks keep the garland in place!
Command hooks come in different styles and weights, including simple hooked designs and Velcro-like strips for securing fabric or lightweight pieces. I’ve used several types and found them easy to apply and effective at holding seasonal decorations in place.
With these hooks I no longer worry about my garland slipping or a wreath hanging oddly on the door. I can position decorations precisely and keep them discreetly secured. They’re especially helpful on doors with molding, windows with narrow ledges, or mantels where I want the garland to swoop just so.
I plan to use a Command Hook for my door wreath this year since hanging wreaths on a door with a window and protruding molding has always been tricky. The adhesive hooks let me find the right spot without damaging the door or relying on visible hardware.
Command Hooks are simple to use and remove cleanly when you’re done with them. In my experience they’ve held up well for seasonal decor and everyday items alike. I purchase them at big-box stores in the picture-hanger aisle, though they are also available from online retailers. I’m sharing this because it genuinely simplified my decorating process — no sponsorship or free products involved, just a useful tool I rely on.
Yay! Back to decorating for me… getting a little jump on things before Thanksgiving…
