Hello friends! Quick update: the blog crashed yesterday and temporarily disappeared. If you tried to visit and couldn’t find it, that’s why. Unfortunately, this post—“What To Put at The Foot of the Bed”—and the comments on it were lost. I’m grateful to Ted, my developer, for getting everything back online, and I’m sorry to those who shared thoughts that are gone. I had another post that didn’t publish on schedule, but I’ll catch up soon. Thank you for your patience. Below is the original post that was lost.
I hope you had a lovely weekend. I spent a few slow days at home puttering around, which is one of my favorite things to do. When you move into a new place and work with pieces you already own instead of buying everything new, it often takes time to discover the right arrangement. I like to switch things unexpectedly, try furniture in different rooms, and move art around until something clicks.
When I unplug from devices and focus on the space itself, creativity flows more easily. A quick change—moving a chair, pairing two items that weren’t previously together, or shifting an art piece—can suddenly make a room feel cohesive. Sometimes it works immediately; other times it needs living with to reveal whether the mix is right. Experimentation is the key to finding what looks and feels right from every angle.
I recently rearranged a few pieces in my home and love the result. I’ll share photos of that update this week, so stay tuned. But first, here’s another post for our Best of the Best bedroom ideas series: practical and beautiful options for what to place at the end of the bed, if you have the space.

A pair of poufs

Poufs are a casual, flexible option that add texture and extra seating without overpowering the room. Use a pair at the foot of the bed for balance, or layer one with a small tray for a temporary side table. They’re easy to move when you need the floor clear and work well in both tight and spacious layouts.

A bench (and a basket!)

A simple wood or upholstered bench creates a tidy, classic look. It provides seating for dressing and a surface for laying out clothes. Slide a woven basket beneath for extra storage—blankets, slippers, or linens stay within reach but out of sight. Benches fit many styles and are one of the most practical choices for the foot of the bed.

A long upholstered bench

A longer upholstered bench or small sofa brings an elevated, hotel-like feel. It’s comfortable for sitting and adds a soft horizontal line that complements the bed. Choose neutral fabrics for versatility, or pick a patterned or textured upholstery to introduce interest.
A small-scale sofa

If your bedroom is large enough, a small-scale sofa can create a cozy seating area. This works well in master bedrooms where you want a separate spot to read or unwind. Position it a few feet from the bed to define the space while keeping flow and balance.
Two X benches

Two X benches provide symmetry and a lighter footprint than a long bench. They can frame the bed nicely and offer individual seating that’s easy to move. Pair them with a rug or layer a folded throw over one for a lived-in look.

A pair of garden stools

Garden stools are unexpected and decorative—perfect when you want small side tables that also function as seating. Use one or a pair for visual interest, and they’re especially good in eclectic or layered interiors.
If you have a lot of space, consider creating a full conversation area at the foot of the bed with a couple of chairs and a small table. Large bedrooms can comfortably accommodate distinct seating zones for reading or relaxing.
More ideas:
- Basket or trunk for storage and surface
- Two angled chairs for a casual seating nook
- A small desk for a compact workspace
- A chaise lounge for lounging and layering
- A dresser to add storage and visual weight
Happy Monday! How’s your summer going so far—are you ready for fall yet?
