She Sent Me a Surprising Message — What Happened Next?

The Inspired Room - Antique cabinet bedroom display
Recently a few blogging friends took part in a playful, slightly risky challenge: each of us visited a local Goodwill or thrift shop, picked a random item, and mailed it to the next blogger on the list. In return we waited to see what would arrive at our own mailbox. It sounded like fun — and a bit nerve-wracking. What if the item was impossible to work with? Thankfully my sender showed mercy and picked something that only needed a little TLC. Crisis averted.

So what arrived?

It was this petite lady, rescued and sent by Laura of Finding Home.

She had clearly lived a life full of character and had lost some of her original sparkle. I considered many directions — a bold new paint color, a dramatic makeover — but ultimately decided she didn’t need to become something she wasn’t. What she needed was care and a fresh, simple update.

After a good cleaning and a coat of glossy white paint, she regained a sense of purpose and charm. That small act brought her back to life.

Now she has a new home atop an antique cabinet in our bedroom, where my husband stores books. Dressed in a few pretty baubles, she adds feminine grace and a touch of whimsy to the space.

Isn’t she lovely? Her sparkle has returned.

You might be wondering what I sent to the next person on the “She Sent Me WHAT?” list.

Did I choose something simple or did I challenge my recipient to get creative?

Head over to Ashley at The Handmade Home to see what she did with the random item I sent her — I’m excited to see her take on it too.

Enjoy the party and be sure to follow each post to discover what the other bloggers received and how they transformed their thrifted treasures.
