A few months ago I added a walking pad under-desk treadmill to a quiet corner of the Snug. While I still prefer walking outdoors, having this compact treadmill at home has been a convenient alternative for quick sessions. It’s easy to set up and simple to use, and the included remote lets me change speeds without bending down. The unit is on wheels, so I can roll it closer to the window or tuck it away when I’m finished. I like keeping it out of the main traffic flow so it’s handy but unobtrusive.

To complement the treadmill I chose a small standing desk that provides a surface for a lamp and a few essentials. This desk is compact, height-adjustable and has lockable wheels, so I can move it around the room and secure it when needed. It’s lightweight and budget-friendly; it’s not built for heavy loads, but because it locks and sits against the wall I can steady myself as I walk if necessary.

The lamp cord bothered me at first, so I’m trying a rechargeable lightbulb in the lamp to reduce visible wiring. The small scalloped chambray lampshade updated the look of a vintage lamp I’ve had for decades and gives the corner a fresh, charming touch.

We also set up a wicker weave privacy screen nearby. It provides privacy when guests visit and can hide the treadmill if I’d rather not be in view while I walk. We even moved the screen downstairs over Mother’s Day weekend when my nephew slept on a cot in the living room; it created just enough separation to make his space feel cozier. The screen adds texture and warmth to the room—lightweight, it stands up well on hardwood floors, though curious children could knock it over, so it’s something to watch for as little ones become more mobile.

I often wear white leather sneakers that are a couple of years old; they’re comfortable and perfect for walking around town or using with the treadmill at home. A seascape painting I found at a local antique store gives the corner a pleasant view and ties into the relaxed vibe.

The little lamp is a vintage piece I’ve had for decades, refreshed with the scalloped lampshade to brighten the space. A boat-shaped bookshelf we’ve kept for years holds my husband’s books and small treasures and adds a bit of character to the corner.

The current wall color in this area is Smoked Embers by Benjamin Moore, which helps create a cozy, slightly moody backdrop that complements the natural textures and vintage accents.

I’ll continue adding recommendations and favorites to my storefront folder as I test more items and spot good deals during seasonal sales.
