3 Must-Have Home Nesting Essentials for Cozy Fall Decorating

The Inspired Room Fall Nesting - Fall Decorating

It’s hard to believe I’m beginning my tenth fall season as a blogger. Even though the calendar hasn’t officially turned to autumn, I’m thrilled the season is on its way—it truly is my favorite time of year.

Fall means everything I love about being at home.

In the Northwest we enjoy lovely weather through summer and into early fall. I love the light and warmth of summer, but by late August I start craving crisp autumn days. It’s not that I don’t appreciate sunshine—I do—but fall brings the return of familiar routines and cozy rituals that make home feel especially comforting.

We had a couple of days of rain and distant thunder last week, and that change of weather arrived sooner than I expected. Hearing rain on the roof reminded me how much I enjoy curling up indoors, so I found myself fluffing pillows and bringing out textured blankets.

I keep my decorating simple, especially early in the season, but I do like to evolve the home toward a cozier atmosphere. I focus on three fall essentials: organic textures, seasonal scents, and richer colors.

I start layering more blankets, pillows, and rugs.
I bring in a few deeper hues. Touches of rusty orange pair beautifully with the blues and grays I live with year-round. A surprise bouquet of red tulips this week paired with evergreen plants echoed the evolving outdoor palette—the way leaves shift and trees change outside our windows.
Wood furniture and accessories, woven baskets on the wall, and warm metal accents add the depth I love for autumn.
I also fill the house with favorite seasonal scents—I’ll share a cozy home scent recipe soon.

Later this month I’ll take you on a fall home tour, and along the way I’ll share small corners of the house as we cozy things up. We’re painting the exterior brick white this week—I already love the look of the primer—and the kitchen remodel starts in a couple of weeks. I’ll post progress updates on those larger projects as they happen.

Wishing you a happy first week of September!
