OThis spring I’m excited to build a pathway from our deck to the garden shed. With more time at home lately, it’s the perfect season to start a small outdoor project, and my college-aged son being home could make it a nice father‑and‑son weekend project.

I’m picturing a curved pea gravel path—simple, charming, and low maintenance. After laying the path, I’d like to add layered planting along the sides: a mix of perennials, small shrubs and some seasonal annuals to soften the edges and add color.
Inside the shed I dream of a tidy potting area with hooks for tools, labeled bins and a small workbench. For now it’s a catchall—holiday decorations and extra cushions have made it a bit messy—so clearing and organizing will be the first step before any decorating.
A gal can dream, right?
We already completed a first phase makeover of the shed. If you don’t recall how it looked when we moved in, here’s the before:

Paint can work wonders—fresh color instantly updates and brightens the structure, making it feel like a smaller, manageable project rather than a major renovation.

One of my favorite inspiration photos comes from French Country Cottage. The planting and informal layout around that shed are exactly the kind of relaxed, cottagey feel I’d like to achieve here.
